Imagine my surprise when researching the WTO and its history, I found instead the World Toilet Organization! Based in Singapore, they are planning to erect the very first Toilet College for the study of sanitation and every year organize the World Toilet Day (Nov 19). Their logo is a stylized toilet seat and their website [www.worldtoilet.org] features flags and the UN logo as well. At first I thought it was pretty funny that such organization should in fact exist, but their video on public schools and vandalism was serious and very professional. [here]
This whole business reminds me of something I heard, can’t recall who said it, about how the greatest calamities are caused when the simplest institutions fail. I suppose toilets are largely responsible for our good humor.
